The Perinatal Hotline is a service of the National HIV/AIDS Clinicians’ Consultation Center (NCCC) at San Francisco General Hospital , which also operates the National HIV Telephone Consultation Service (Warmline) and the National Clinicians’ Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Hotline (PEPline).

Sample Call:

A 37-year-old woman at 39 weeks gestation presents to Labor and Delivery with frequent contractions and at 5cm dilatation. A rapid HIV test is weakly positive. The patient had refused HIV testing during prenatal care. She denies any risk factors, but her husband is known to be HCV-positive. Should HIV medications be initiated? What tests or treatment should be prescribed for the infant? What follow up testing is need to confirm the woman’s HIV status.

The Perinatal HIV Hotline (888-448-8765) and the PEPline (888-448-4911) are both available 24 hours, seven days per week. The Warmline (800-933-3413) is available 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST) Monday through Friday. All consultations are free and confidential.
